White Oak & Rock Maple Dining Table

I designed and built this large dining table in 2014, it measures 1.1m x 2.4m and is made from solid White Oak and Rock Maple (the chairs were added by the customer later; not my chairs).

While the re-launch of my website might be new in 2023/24, my furniture design and woodwork projects are not. I designed and crafted this large solid Oak and Rock Maple table back in 2014 for some friends from my mountain biking days. It’s the largest, most complex project I’ve completed to date, and at the time, with only a relatively small handful of tools and equipment. The table is solid Oak and Rock Maple, the top is in 3 parts which makes moving it much easier and is bolted to trestle style leg supports. The bolt holes are slotted, where required, to allow for seasonal expansion/contraction of the table top.

The timber was ordered ‘dressed’ (ie: machined) from Otto’s Timber (back when they were at Stepney). This took a lot of work over many months and some very cold evenings: at the time, I was working as a freelance web designer and also as a bike/mechanic & sales at a large bike shop in Norwood (Lifecycle Bicycles). Aurelia loves her table; recently they have since sold and moved from the house where these photos were taken, I haven’t yet seen the table in its new surroundings.
